COMMON DECLARATION OF GREEN DEMOCRATS – HUNGARY AND STRANA ZELENICH - SLOVAKIA Nyomtatás E-mail
In times of financial crisis we must work harder than ever to achieve peace and harmony between nations. Nineteenth century nationalistic ideas won't help us face the challenges of the 21th century. We Greens of Slovakia and Hungary are proud to be a part of Europe and we know that new paradigms are needed if we want to solve the social, economic, and environmental problems of our time.

On 17 November 2008 we showed that everyday people coming together can make a difference. We showed that our nations can live together in a cooperative spirit. Two days beforehand we were in Esztergom and Sturovo and on the bridge between our nations, a meeting took place between our prime ministers. The meeting achieved little more than rhetoric and finger pointing. Meanwhile, with our demonstration we showed that there no place for extremist attitudes or solutions in the relations between our people. We condemn the extremists of both nations. Neither do they serve our common goals, nor do they offer solutions to the challenges we face.

We feel that the global and local problems of the 21st century, including the problems between our nations, can only be addressed if we adopt a fundamentally new approach - the Greens' ecological approach - which offers answers to the social, economic, and environmental challenges ahead.
